My name is Pleun, I’m only 19 years old, in the middle of my study Arts and Culture and I have a huge fascination for food and health. Since I’ve been living on my own, in my lovely apartment in Maastricht, I went through a huge development regarding food. After following my parents in their healthy habits, I first became the typical student: eating a lot of pasta (organic, but still…), lovely sandwiches and many to big dishes. Yes, my roommate and me LOVED pasta (that’s us on the picture). Nothing wrong with that, but the thing with pasta is that it is hard to limit to what you actually need, what makes me to describe this period as rather unhealthy. Slowly I was more and more fascinated by not only delicious food, but at the same time healthy food. And that is where my journey started. From the one moment to the other vegetables became the centre of my cooking. First I made boring dishes. I sliced vegetables, garlic and onions, threw them in a pan or in the oven, add herbs, and waited. Then I cooked some couscous of fried an egg, and was basically done. After a while I felt the urge to make an artwork from my dishes. It doesn’t have to be hard or take a lot of time, but it’s so much better!
And now I’m starting this blog to share everything I’ve learned and will learn about food. Healthy and delicious food. I often notice that healthy food is associated with uninteresting and colorless food, and automatically not delicious. Moreover, as a student you are confronted with several limits, such as your budget and the time you have for cooking food. Obviously cooking good food asks for time and attention. I want to show that it is not as hard as often expected, and not as time-consuming to cook a healthy and delicious meal.
I will post many lovely recipes that I can permit being a student. Furthermore I want to create consciousness amongst everybody who reads this blog; make everybody a little bit more critical towards food. Many important fact concerning our food are not commonly known and have a huge influence on our bodies. Therefore I will, besides the lovely recipes, also write small articles full of tips and fact that increase your horizon in the world of food and that show what exactly your body wants and needs. It is much easier than you think, if you only want! With just a few changes in your patterns you can achieve your goals.
Food has always been of interest to me. First because it is incredibly delicious and secondly because I see it as a challenge to cook healthy food for my body. I want to share everything because I’m convinced that it is really important to have some knowledge about food and to be able to consciously chose what you want to eat and what not. Finally I want to add that I see it as a challenge for myself to write in English and to improve while doing so; so please forgive me my mistakes.
I will take you with me on my adventures through the amazing world of food!
